Welcome back to the College  for 2014.  We have had the most positive start to the school year.  Our College roll is 660 and there is an extremely positive vibe amongst the students of the College. I am pleased to spread the good news that we have achieved outstanding results again in NCEA examinations  I have included a preliminary analysis of the results in this newsletter. Particularly pleasing has been the increase in Merit and Excellence endorsement.

Our Powhiri and induction of year 7 students has again  been very positive and successful process. Our new students are settling in very well and are continuing their introduction to the College through our peer support programmes with the year 13 students.  The year 13 students are helping them with their introduction to the College as their “older brothers and sisters“ of the Verdon family. It has been great to see so many more year 13 students than ever before  taking up this leadership opportunity.

Our Opening Mass was another great occasion involving the induction of our student leaders.  It was wonderful to see the church completely full with the increase in the roll. The Opening Mass is a wonderful  way  to celebrate our special Catholic character and to pray for blessing on our endeavours  at the beginning of a new school year.

We have been pleased to receive positive feedback in our recent ERO report which acknowledges the work that we have been undertaking in the school over the last three years.  Included within the newsletter is some positive comments from the report and instruction on how to access the complete report.  We are looking forward to continuing to work hard to deliver the best outcomes for all members of the College community and aspire towards excellence in everything we do. I look forward to working with you all again this year.

God Bless

Jarlath
