Welcome back to all students and families for a new year at the College. A especially warm welcome to those students and families new to the College. It was again a wonderful experience to welcome new pupils to the College with our powhiri. It is a pleasure to have new students join our family and we look forward to working with you to support your success over the coming years.
Our College roll has seen an increase this year to 625 students. This increase is a positive sign for the College and is due to increasing enquiry to attend the College and our increasing retention of students in the senior school. It has been very pleasing to see the way in which students have welcomed those new to the College demonstrating our value of whanau and family spirit.
The year for our senior students has begun in the most positive fashion. Our results in NCEA have been outstanding. Last year the College set high targets for the achievement of students in NCEA and I am extremely pleased to announce that we have surpassed these targets at each Level in the Senior College. 84.5% of students at Year 11 achieved NCEA Level 1, 82 % of students at year 12 achieved NCEA Level 2 and 66.7% of students in year 13 achieved NCEA Level 3. Along with these results we have had further improvement in the achievement of merits and excellence endorsement by our students at all levels of NCEA. I congratulate the staff and students on their efforts last year and look forward to continued success this year.
The College is looking forward to a positive year with several development projects currently being completed or in the pipeline. These projects include the development of the stage in the Hall, upgrade of the seating in the Hall, continued development of the ICT resources in the College, Gifted and Talented programmes for students in Years 7-10, along with increased opportunities for students’ leadership and involvement in the community. 2012 promises to be another year of opportunity and growth for the College. As a College community we are excited about the possibilities that this year will bring and look forward to your continued support and involvement in the College. God Bless Jarlath Kelly Principal
